Working from home sounded amazing at first.

No commute. No office chair politics. No colleague asking, “Can you hear me?” while you're clearly talking.

Then reality happened.

Eight hours later, you're sitting on the sofa like a folded laptop, your neck hurts and your back is wondering why you chose this career.

The good news? You don't necessarily need an expensive office makeover. A few inexpensive accessories can make a surprisingly big difference.

1. A laptop stand

The classic WFH problem: your laptop is sitting on the desk, but your neck is doing all the travelling.

A laptop stand raises the screen so you don't spend the entire day staring down. Amazon India lists laptop stands as a useful home-office accessory for adjusting laptop angle and creating a more comfortable workstation.

2. A cheap footrest

Your feet shouldn't spend eight hours dangling like they're waiting for a bus.

A footrest can give your legs somewhere comfortable to land and help you maintain a more stable sitting position. Amazon Business specifically recommends footrests for long periods of desk work.

3. A monitor riser

If you're using a desktop monitor, raising it can help you avoid constantly looking downward.

And you don't necessarily need an expensive monitor arm. A simple riser can do the job while giving you some bonus storage underneath.

4. An external keyboard

Here's the problem with using a laptop stand: once the screen goes up, the keyboard goes up too.

That's where an inexpensive external keyboard comes in.

Raise the laptop screen, keep the keyboard at a comfortable height and suddenly your desk setup starts looking suspiciously professional.

5. A separate mouse

Trackpads are convenient.

Using one for eight hours straight?

Your hand may have opinions.

A basic external mouse lets you position your hand more naturally and gives you more freedom to place your keyboard and laptop separately.

6. A small lumbar cushion

If your chair is perfectly comfortable for exactly 17 minutes, you aren't alone.

A small lumbar cushion can provide additional support for your lower back, particularly if your existing chair doesn't have much built-in support.

Just don't expect a cushion to magically turn a dining chair into a Herman Miller.

7. A desk mat

This one won't revolutionise your posture, but it can make your workspace more comfortable and organised.

It gives your keyboard and mouse a consistent surface and makes the whole desk feel less like “temporary WFH arrangement” and more like an actual workstation.

The best hack costs nothing

Before buying anything, look at your setup.

Your screen should be positioned comfortably rather than forcing your head downward, your feet should have proper support, and your keyboard and mouse should be positioned so you aren't constantly reaching forward.

Even Amazon's own home-office guidance emphasises choosing furniture and accessories based on your body, workspace and working habits.

And remember: the goal isn't to buy seven gadgets.

It is to stop finishing every workday feeling like you've just spent eight hours trapped inside a suitcase.

Sometimes, the biggest upgrade isn't a bigger desk.

It's simply getting your laptop off the table and your feet back on the ground.
